Puppy preschool is designed to give young puppies the essential skills needed during their critical socialisation period (between 8-16 weeks of age). The classes also encourage a strong bond between puppy and owner and set the foundations for obedience training. Owners are also provided with information on how to care for their new puppy, including nutrition, parasite protection, environmental enrichment and grooming.
Dog Training
Our training methods are based on the Delta Canine Good Citizen Program, which involves positive re-enforcement for good behaviour. Basic commands such as sit, stay and heel are taught, as well as covering any behaviour problems that owners are experiencing. The classes include information on toilet training and the best methods to achieve this. Depending on how quickly the puppies are learning, there may even be some trick training.
Classes will be run for one hour once a week over a 4 week period. All owners will be given homework each week to practice before the next class.
Requirements
All puppies must be up to date with vaccination and worming.
All puppies must have a lead and collar.
It is best to bring puppies to class hungry, as lots of lovely treats will be provided during the lesson.
If puppies have been home all day and have an abundance of energy, a short walk is advisable (if appropriate to their vaccination status), but don't wear them out.
Puppy preschool is run by our vet nurse Tammi, who has successfully completed:
